Ketanji Onyika means “Lovely One” instilled in her a love for the law, as a federal public defense Attorney. She has a type A perfectionist personality.  Her husband, Patrick is a top general surgeon. Two beautiful daughters, Talia and Leila. 


Justice Jackson’s life is a testament to resilience and excellence. Growing up in Miami’s diverse environment, she embraced a multicultural perspective that influenced her worldview. Her career, spanning roles as a federal public defender and later as a Supreme Court justice, reflects her commitment to justice and equality.


Nominated by President Joe Biden, the daughter of African American parents who had come of age in the segregated South during the 1950s and early 1960s, became the 116th justice and the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court’s history. Sworn in on her ancient Jackson family Bible. Her confirmation took place in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. She was confirmed by the Senate on April 7, 2022.

Meanwhile, a few books by African American writers manage to attract a crossover audience among white readers. Race/culture play an important part in books.
